Role Summary
- The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key executive leadership position responsible for the overall financial strategy, management, and health of Cosgrove Investment Limited.
- The CFO will drive the company's long-term financial planning, capital structure, fiscal control, and risk management across both its
- large-scale real estate development and road construction/infrastructure divisions.
- This role requires extensive experience in financial leadership within the Nigerian construction and infrastructure sector.
Key Responsibilities
The CFO's responsibilities are divided into four main strategic areas:
Financial Strategy & Planning
- Strategic Planning: Lead the development and execution of the company's long- term financial strategy, supporting the CEO's vision for growth and market expansion.
- Capital Management: Determine the optimal capital structure; manage equity and debt funding, including liaising with banks, financial institutions, and potential investors for project financing.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Oversee the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, financial forecasts, and resource allocation across all departments andprojects (Real Estate & Infrastructure).
- Investment Decisions: Provide financial analysis and counsel on major capital expenditures, project feasibility, and M&A opportunities.
Financial Operations & Project Control
- Cost Management: Implement robust financial controls and systems to monitor project costs, ensure accurate cost-to-complete reporting, and maximize profitability for complex road and housing projects.
- Treasury & Cash Flow: Direct the Treasury function, managing working capital, optimizing cash flow, and overseeing foreign exchange risk related to imported construction materials and equipment.
- Accounting & Reporting: Direct all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with local (IFRS/SAS) and international accounting standards. Lead the preparation of all statutory and internal financial reports for the Board and CEO.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Financial Risk: Establish and maintain comprehensive risk management policies to protect the company's assets, including credit risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk.
- Tax Management: Oversee all tax planning, compliance, and reporting (e.g., FIRS, State BIRs), ensuring adherence to VAT, WHT, and Corporate Tax laws across all operating states.
- Audit Management: Act as the primary liaison for both internal and external auditors, ensuring timely and clean audits.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting teams to ensure high performance and strict adherence to best practices.
- Stakeholder Communication: Present financial performance, strategic issues, and future outlook to the CEO/Board of Directors
- Systems Implementation: Champion the selection, implementation, and optimization of ERP systems and financial software relevant to the construction industry.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
Essential Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. An MBA or Master's degree is highly desirable.
- Professional Qualification: Must be a Fellow or Associate of ICAN or ACCA or equivalent.
- Experience: A minimum of 15–20 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 5 years in senior financial leadership role.
- Industry Expertise: Mandatory, significant, and verifiable experience within the road construction, infrastructure, or large-scale real estate development sector in Nigeria, managing multi-project budgets.
