Job Summary
- The Upholsterer is responsible for installing, repairing, and finishing interior components of vehicles, including seats, door panels, dashboards, roof linings, carpets, and other trim materials.
- The role requires precision, craftsmanship, and experience in automotive upholstery within a manufacturing or assembly environment to ensure high-quality interior finishing that meets company and customer standards.
Key Responsibilities
Interior Upholstery Installation:
- Install seat covers, foam padding, headrests, armrests, and interior trims.
- Fit carpets, roof linings, door panels, and dashboard coverings.
- Ensure accurate alignment and secure attachment of materials.
Cutting & Stitching
- Measure, cut, and sew fabric, leather, vinyl, and other upholstery materials.
- Operate industrial sewing machines and hand tools for upholstery work.
- Ensure clean stitching and finishing according to company standards.
3. Repair & Replacement:
- Repair damaged interior trims and replace worn-out materials.
- Conduct minor adjustments and finishing corrections where required.
Quality Control:
- Inspect completed upholstery work for defects, alignment, and finishing quality.
- Ensure all interior installations meet safety and aesthetic standards.
Material & Tool Handling:
- Maintain proper storage and handling of upholstery materials.
- Use tools such as staple guns, cutting knives, sewing machines, adhesives, and fitting tools safely.
- Report material shortages or defects to the supervisor.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow workplace safety guidelines and wear appropriate PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in line with HSE standards.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualification:
- SSCE / OND or vocational/technical certification in Upholstery, Furniture Craft, Automobile Interior Technology, or related field.
Experience:
- 3–7 years’ experience as an Upholsterer in an automobile manufacturing or vehicle assembly company.
- Practical experience working with leather, fabric, foam, vinyl, and interior automotive materials.
Technical Skills:
- Strong sewing, cutting, and fitting skills.
- Knowledge of automotive interior assembly processes.
- Ability to interpret design specifications and measurements.
- Experience using industrial sewing machines and upholstery tools.
Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and finishing quality.
- Good hand coordination and craftsmanship.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
- Team-oriented with good communication skills.
- High level of discipline and reliability.
