Job Summary
- The Welding Engineer will be responsible for planning, developing, qualifying, and supervising all welding activities for the pipeline project.
- The role ensures full compliance with applicable codes, project specifications, and regulatory standards while maintaining safety, quality, and schedule requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Main Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering:
- Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records POR), and welding Procedure Qualification Tests AWPOT).
- Ensure that the required WPSs are supplied by the contractor to cover all requirements to meet code.
- Review all mechanical test results to ensure in line with project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as API 1104, ASME B31.4, ASME Section X, 150 standards, and project-specific specifications.
- Provide technical support for onshore/offshore pipeline welding operations including tie-ins, hot taps, and repairs.
- Review and approve welder qualification tests and maintain welder performance records.
- Resolve welding-related technical ssues and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
Quality Assurance control:
- Ensure implementation of project welding Quality Control Plans.
- Monitor weld repair rates and recommend improvement strategies. Interface with QA/QC teams to ensure compliance with NDT requirements (RT, UT, AUT, MT, PT).
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and record management for all welding activities.
Construction Support:
- Supervise welding activities during mainline welding, station piping, and facility construction.
- Coordinate with construction, inspection, and subcontractor teams.
- Support material selection, welding consumables control, and storage compliance.
- Participate in pre-weid meetings and method statement reviews.
HSE & Compliance:
- Ensure strict adherence to HSE policies during welding operations.
- Conduct welding risk assessments and method statement reviews.
- Promote afo work practices and compliance vich company and regulatory standards.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare welding performance reports and KPIS.
- Maintain welding logs, welder qualifications, NOT reports, and as-built documentation.
- Provide periodic updates to Project Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in oil & gas pipeline construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience in long-distance pipeline welding (onshore/offshore).
- Strong knowledge of API 1104, ASME B31.4, ASME Section IX, ONV (where applicable), I50 3834
- Experience with automatic welding systems and mechanized welding is an advantage.
- Familiarity with AUT Systems for pipeline projects.
- Certifications (Preferred), Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or equivalent
- CSWIP 3.2/IWE/WT certification, NDT Level I| (advantageous).
- Relevant H5E certifications (advantageous)
- Excellent knowledge of pipeline integrity and welding metallurgy
- Strong documentation and reporting skills
- Ability to manage subcontractors and multicultural teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
