COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB (education and experience required)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, or related field
- 5-7 years’ experience in import/export operations or a similar role
- Demonstrated knowledge of customs regulations and compliance requirements
- Demonstrate strong to develop and maintain business relationships with both customers and suppliers
- Good written communications skills, ability to apply critical thinking skills and problem solving techniques.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to organize his own team effectively and efficiently.
- You must have a sound understanding of business finance and be able to analyse financial data and be able to apply mathematics to problem solve where applicable.
- Able to make decisions at critical times and whilst under pressure.
- You must be able to lead a team and be sensitive to the needs of others’.
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTION
- Coordinate shipments between domestic warehouse to destination ports, while ensuring that shipments are completed and process on time.
- Completed all necessary paperwork for shipments by all Import and Export regulations, and per shipper and destination country requirements.
- Coordinated daily import/export activities with carriers, customs brokers and other third party logistics.
- Provided a domestic warehouse with any special shipping instructions required for the product shipment.
- Coordinated pickup with various customers, suppliers and third-party warehouses; verifying receipt of all import and export of coffee.
- Traced shipments through all transit point up to final destination; advised overseas agents and managers of any irregularities.
- Provided extensive support in purchasing coffee, including sourcing, vendor identification, product evaluation, contract agreements, and implementation.
SPECIFIC TARGETS/ OBJECTIVES.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all laws, regulations, and compliance requirements related to importing goods into the United States
- Oversee the daily operations of the import department, including staff supervision, budgeting, and scheduling
- Negotiate with vendors, suppliers, and freight forwarders to secure the best possible terms for the company
- Prepare and submit required documentation to customs authorities in a timely and accurate manner
- Monitor shipments throughout the import process, ensuring that they remain on schedule and within budget.
