Location: Karasana - Gwarinpa, Abuja (FCT)
Job Summary
- Responsible for instructing others about the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Assigns books and essays for pupils to read and teaches them how to identify themes, points of view, and other characteristics.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach pupils about the structure and content of the English language, including proper grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.
- Instruct pupils on interpreting literature.
- Assign books to be read.
- Help pupils interpret literature and poetry.
- Teach about different literary styles.
- Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.
- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities
- Create a positive educational climate for pupils to learn in.
- Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
- Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
- Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed.
- Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.
- Utilize various curriculum resources.
- Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
- Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the pupils served.
- Tutor pupils on an individual basis.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Prepare and distribute required reports.
- Observe and evaluate student's performance.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in English, Linguistics, Education or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a teaching role.
- Deep understanding of the British/Nigerian curriculum and English language requirements.
- A PGDE is required for those whose degrees are not in Education. IGCSE and TRCN certification is an added advantage.
