Job Specification:


This role ensures that all manufactured products meet or exceed customer expectations and all Quality/Product Safety requirements. The manager assumes a leadership role in reinforcing and adhering to established company quality standards and specifications, validating quality throughout the production process. Manages and directs the quality department in compliance with relevant federal regulations, customer expectations and internal standards.


Supervises activities relating to inspection, laboratory testing, auditing, and process control.


Also responsible for implementing, maintaining and modifying the plant’s quality and product safety management system to improve business operating systems and to meet the requirements of customers and best practice audits.


Oversees validations of new product, qualifications on plant equipment, inspection, laboratory testing, statistical process control and corrective action with a mindset of continuous improvement.


Required Skills:



  • Comprehensive understanding of quality management systems, food safety programs, HACCP, and GMP standards is required

  • Experience in designing and implementing advanced Quality Management Systems is preferred

  • Experience with plastics and/or packaging or other high speed, high volume conversion processes in the production environment is preferred

  • Previous experience with Regulatory Audits, HACCP and FSSC, GMP, SMETA, SGP standards for Pepsi, Coke preferred and other GFSI benchmarked standard training

  • Must have strong skills in computer applications (Word, Excel), and Internet-based research, Statistical Analysis, Process/Product Control and Designed

  • Proven leadership skills and people management skills derived from direct and indirect responsibility for building and managing cohesive, high performing teams

  • Must be self-starting, self-motivated personality type, able to work independently

  • Results-oriented and process driven, with high expectations of self and team

  • Collaborative mindset with strength in effectively receiving and communicating feedback

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Job Roles / Responsibilities:



  • Design, implement and direct the quality assurance program for the PET Preform & Closures plant.


Establish/maintain quality program, including but not limited to:



  • Document and data control

  • Control of customer supplied materials and nonconforming product/material

  • Product identification and traceability

  • Inspecting/testing procedures and control of related equipment

  • Corrective and preventive actions

  • Internal quality audits (housekeeping, GMP, Recall, Food defense, Food fraud etc.)

  • Establish/monitor and control hold for inspection (HFI) procedures to ensure nonconforming

  • materials do not enter the production process and are properly identified and segregated.

  • Responsible for Final Product testing & release

  • Coordinate quality activities with other plant personnel seeking mutual agreement on problems involving coordination.

  • Support new product development process

  • Audit manufacturing control plans for new products and processes

  • Coordinate and participate in 2rd & 3nd party audits at Co-man and vendors, maintain record and corrective action of findings.

  • Preform audit of suppliers facilities, production systems, verify/validate CAPAs and QA systems.

  • Administer and manage vendor approval program with sourcing.

  • Prepare, present and submit reports on the Management Systems, food safety, and customer audit& complaints status on monthly basis and for management review meetings

  • Liaising with customers' auditors and ensuring the execution of corrective action and compliance with customers' specifications

  • Coordinate with relevant local and international regulatory agencies e.g. SON, NAFDAC etc.

  • Assist with auditing and maintaining useful raw material, packaging, and finished product databases

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met in manufacturing and supply chain

  • Develop and maintain useful raw material, packaging, and finished product specifications and all additionally required documentation

  • Supervise hourly personnel at the assigned location(s) responsible for the coordination and performance of the overall quality.

  • Inspection of incoming purchased materials, work-in-process material, rework materials and finished goods. Assure the required level of quality through visual inspection, statistical sampling and laboratory testing of materials. Ascertain the reasons for nonconforming materials.

  • Ensures Processing of all scrap materials including but not limited to bottle/preform salvage and regrind, corrugated salvage and other materials does not pose a risk to product safety

  • Design and implement accurate reporting and recording of scrap, reprocessed materials. Control the movement of these materials.

  • Ascertain the disposition of materials placed on HOLD.

  • Develop and implement continuous improvement plans for defect prevention programs by determining the cause of defects. Recommend and stimulate corrective action with plant personnel/staff managers by encouraging an atmosphere of continuous improvement and employee involvement programs. Provide leadership in campaigning for quality improvements.

  • Provide consistent ongoing analysis of defect costs/customer complaints in order to provide plant manager and division quality manager with appropriate actions.

  • Lead quality initiatives and procedures to ensure best practices are maintained at the facility. Serve as local contact for external audit programs (ISO, FSSC, HACCP, CUSTOMER & REGULATORY) and assist plant management in implementing corrective actions to such audits.

  • Manages with production and marketing teams customer complaints or quality problems. Travel as required to customer locations to ascertain the nature of problems and their impacts.

  • Design, implement, and coordinate training programs for managers, staff and employees to assure quality standards are defined and expectations communicated.

  • Manage quality department supplies and expense budget and ensure spending is cost effective.

General work experience



  • Minimum 5 years related experience in quality assurance in a manufacturing organization,

  • preferably in plastic packaging

  • 7-10 years related experience in quality assurance in rigid plastic packaging preferably PET preform & closures.


Specific work experience



  • minimum 3 years supervisory or management of quality

  • 4 years experience in Quality assurance management role


Professional certifications / licenses



  • Minimum HACCP level 3,

  • FOOD SAFETY

  • ISO 22000:2018, FSSC

  • 22000 Internal or Lead Auditor Certification
