What You Can Expect

The incumbent will be responsible for providing support in the implementation of the Health, Safety and Environment programs, including relevant regulatory compliance, and the requirements of Responsible Care and Quality Management Systems on BASF sites located in Lagos, Nigeria. Duties will include the following:



  • Assisting with the development and implementation of strategies for site’s environmental, health & safe-ty and Quality to ensure compliance with legal, ISO 9001 and BASF guidelines

  • Providing advice where possible, judgement and analysis in regulatory compliance and due diligence programs

  • Liaising with EHSQ Responsible for local, regional and global reporting requirements, to ensure accu-rate, consistent and reliable data reporting in a timely manner

  • Facilitate in the investigation of all incidents and accidents, together with appropriate preventive and corrective actions in a timely manner

  • Identifying EHSQ training needs in conjunction with line managers and ensuring all training is complet-ed as necessary

  • Liaising with EHSQ responsible for management system reviews internally and externally based on Responsible Care, Transport and Distribution Safety, Process Safety, Toll Manufacturing, Quality and Security systems

  • Co-ordinating Occupational Medicine and Health Protection programs, particularly medical examina-tions, travel medicine, First-aid provision and health surveillance on specific hazardous substance expo-sures

  • Act as a deputy for other EHSQ team members in absences and provide out of hours first response in case of incidents and accidents

  • Coordinate internal quality audits and ensure that all Quality documentation is implemented and main-tained at all times

  • Providing proactive EHS advise where necessary to minimize risks and have zero incidents.


What We Expect



  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Science or Technical Field

  • Relevant EHS Experience

  • Certification and knowledge of EHS (e.g., OHS Act) Legislation and related SANS codes is desirable

  • Certification in SHEQ systems (SAMTRAC, NEBOSH TQM, etc.) will be advantageous

  • An understanding of management system tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and networking skills

  • Excellent IT Skills.
