JOB DESCRIPTION
A Grant Writer provides a critical component for non-profits who provide all manner of Service to Society, responsible for finding funding opportunities for an organization and writing polished proposals to earn grant money. While the role of a Grant Writer is an essential component for the smooth functioning of almost all non-profit agencies even though its impact to the outside observer is subtle and hidden. A Grant Writer is unique among Human Services workers in that they can plug into virtually any non-profit agency or industry that pursues grant money, bringing their skills to almost any scenario and making a huge impact.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:
- Write grants based on corporate guidelines and priorities.
- Search potential funding organizations and identify possible grants opportunities.
- Work with grant team to complete assigned tasks within the deadlines.
- Organize regular grant meetings to discuss about updates, issues, and recommendations.
- Assist in preparing budget for grant application.
- Write grant proposals and ensure error-free grant submission.
- Maintain grant application database for future reference purposes
- Prepare grant application, proposals, correspondence, and other documents for new and existing funders.
- Monitor and track submitted, pending and on-going proposals
- Write compelling, effective, and well-written grant proposals
- Interact with funding organizations regarding status of grant application
- Build positive relationship with existing and potential funding sources.
- Write sponsorship packages
- Identify new funding opportunities.
- Review budget proposals with the management or team leaders.
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- Grant writer must have excellent written and communication skills.
- Top-shelf research skills.
- Ability to understand the needs of both the agency in need of funding and the organization that is offering the grant money.
- Great organizational skills.
- Must be able to understand and execute complex instructions and outstanding computer skills.
- The ability to persuade, to weave a clear and compelling narrative.
- To structure and edit text and to be empathic to researchers.
- Must understand the funding landscape, individual sponsor requirements, and how to transform a research idea in a project.
- Must have 6 years’ experience in Grant writing.
- Must have written over 30 to 40 grants with 80 percent award results.
- Bachelor’s degree is English, Journalism, Communications or Marketing. Additional advanced degree may also be required.
- Candidates must reside in Abuja.
- Must pass background check which includes providing 3Guarantors and 3Referees
