We are looking to hire an ambitious Junior Accountant to support the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks.
Responsibilities
- Maintain financial files and records
- Support external auditors with annual audit exercises
- Maintain the accounts payable and receivable systems in order to ensure complete and accurate payment records
- Review invoices and other payment requests for appropriate approvals, adequacy of budget cover, the validity of claims, and relevant supporting documents
- Ensure timely processing of all payables
- Assist in following up on outstanding reconciling items to ensure timely resolution of issues relating to reconciliations
- Support the Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly accruals and prepayment schedules
- Review and reconcile relevant tax accounts – VAT, WHT, PAYE, etc. to ensure completeness, accuracy, and validity
- Compute and file tax returns to relevant tax authorities including related reports to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations
- Administer petty cash disbursement and reconciliation
- Process advance requests and track retirements in line with approved policies
- Knowledge of Excel, Sage, or other accounting software
- Posting and processing journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
- Updating accounts receivable and issuing invoices.
- Updating accounts payable and performing reconciliations.
- Providing support to a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the company’s finances.
- Keeping petty cash records and issuing purchase receipts.
- Preparation of estimates and job cards.
Qualifications / Requirements
- HND OR B.sc in accounting
- Must have at least 2 years of relevant experience on the job
- Preferably candidates who reside on the island or its environs
- Must have good communication skills
- Strong analytical skill
- Must be disciplined with good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure
