Job Summary:
The role is part of the extended leadership team reporting directly to the GMD/CEO. It is essentially strategic (through effective leadership) developing & implementing strategic initiatives as well as ensuring the delivery of agreed outcomes through well-executed action plans.
With responsibility for managing compliance, the HSP also has extensive interface with site operations management, consultants and regulatory agencies. The role will provide a mentoring role to the DCP social teams with visible and uncompromised commitment to Social Performance. The role will also support the establishment and effective operation of appropriate social performance management systems and staff capacities at Plant levels.
- Responsible for developing and implementing a company-wide DCP Corporate Social Performance strategy and working with senior leadership and key stakeholders to recognize and communicate all firm initiatives with social impact. The role will create an integrated approach that is mission-driven, holds to the company’s values, and fosters greater accountability towards corporate citizenship.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Build and oversee the company’s corporate Social Performance strategy. Develop Social Performance capabilities throughout the organization to reinforce the culture and brand of Dangote Cement PLC.
- Support Plants in developing and implementing effective Social Performance Management Systems;
- Contribute to the embedding of a culture of compliance and ethical behaviour in DCP;
- Provide consultation and support to lines of business and inclusion networks involved in social responsibility efforts
- Develop and drive relevant Social Performance policies, strategies and programs that reflect the company’s values.
- Define key social performance targets and relevant social performance indicators (KPI) and monitor progress of Plants in achieving targets;
- Monitor compliance of DCP Plants as regards required regulation and performance standards through audit programs;
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop goals, processes, and metrics to measure and report the Company’s performance with respect to Social Performance and social investments disclosures.
- Partner with Corporate Communications to develop and deploy communication/awareness materials on Social Performance initiatives and how they reinforce/ add to the company’s strategies. Including creating and producing an annual report.
- Monitor industry trends and changes in the relevant regulatory, performance standard and policy environment for informed decision making Coordinate with Group HSSE Function (Social Performance) to monitor and report on the Group performance against defined social KPIs and also deliver on required compliance mandates.
- Work with Marketing, Human Resources, Sustainability and Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) leadership teams to increase associate engagement in Social Performance and ESG initiatives and maintain a culture of responsible corporate citizenship. May lead or champion company wide campaigns.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Provide expertise on enhancing awareness of social issues likely to have material impacts on the business;
- Identify competency gaps and deliver training interventions;
- Provide direction and support on external and internal compliance assurance programmes;
- Produce reports and updates on social performance for both internal and external stakeholders;
- Manage a system for the appropriate retention, disposition, and control of all relevant social documents and records;
- Coordinate selection of vendors/contractors for technical social assignments
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Sociology, Community or Rural Development, Political Science, Humanities or related fields.
- Master’s Degree in related courses such as MBA, MA/MSc in International Relations or Sustainable Development would be an advantage
- 15+ years industry experience including relevant project site operational experience with at least 5 years in a senior management position
- 5+ years of business consulting experience
- ISO-26000 (Social Responsibility) Lead Implementer and/or Lead Auditor; ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System)
- Lead Implementer and /or Lead Auditor; ISO-45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) Lead Implementer and/or Lead Auditor
- Other related professional experiences
Work Experience
- 15+ years industry experience including relevant project site operational experience with at least 5 years in a senior management position
- 5+ years of business consulting experience
- ISO-26000 (Social Responsibility) Lead Implementer and/or Lead Auditor; ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System)

Skills and Competencies
- Very good working knowledge of applicable social-related legislation, corporate social investment approaches, land acquisition and resettlement, human rights management, health impacts on local community, cultural heritage, (preferably in emerging countries), international standards (e.g. IFC, World Bank Group and AfDB EHSS standards and guidelines) and practices across a spectrum including development projects and operations
- Vast knowledge of social issues related to the Cement industry
- Proactive anticipation and problem-solving skills in the context of operational and regulatory requirements
- Experience in leading continuous improvement projects
- Effective planning, target setting, project monitoring and performance measurement
- Experience in successful implementation of social performance management framework in a large and diversified business space
- Experienced in sustainability and corporate social responsibility management
- Track record in executing technical social studies/surveys and managing social investment portfolios
- Development and implementation of Integrated Management Systems according to IFC Performance Standards and ISO26000 international standard preferred
