Working under the direction of the Matron, the Healthcare Assistant will take care of the day-to-day needs of patients by providing help with personal care, meals, and mobility.
The incumbent will also carry out a range of housekeeping duties, as well as performing basic medical checks, such as taking a patient's temperature, pulse, and respiration rate.
Responsibilities
Takes and delivers blood samples.
Provides mobility assistant to the patients.
Ensures the comfort of patients by replacing linens, giving out bedpans and collecting bedpans.
Monitors and records patient’s vital signs and heart rate as needed.
Ensures all medical equipment are properly sterilized and stored.
Assists in feeding patients who are unable to feed themselves.
Monitors and records changes in the patient's health.
Communicates with Matron and other senior healthcare providers changes in patient’s health.
Ensures all supplies and medical equipment are replenished.
Sets up equipment required by Medical Officers.
Prepares the patient for therapy.
Maintains cleanliness of the wards and ward area.
Checking and ordering inventory supplies and informing the matron on the replacement as needed.
Assisting with clinical duties.
Assists patients wash, shower or dress.
Turning patients to help them feel less anxious
Talking to patients to help them feel less anxious.
Qualifications
Diploma in any medical-related field.
CHEW Certificate
Proven experience as a healthcare provider or in a similar field.
Previous experience in a caring role.
Previous medical experience in a similar role.
The desire to work with all people, irrespective of background or race.
Good communication skills.
Good listening skills.
Physically able to lift patients.
A tactful and approachable personality.
Strong desire to help people and improve their daily lives.
Compassionate and sensitive to patients’ needs and concerns.
