Job objectives:



  • The Legal/Compliance Officer will be responsible for drafting and reviewing various legal documents and ensuring they comply with all relevant laws and regulations.

  • The Legal/Compliance Officer be responsible for supporting local and global legal and compliance efforts for our organization and promoting an ethical and legally compliant business culture. 

  • The Legal/Compliance Officer will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of the organization’s compliance objectives by managing the development, implementation, and monitoring of various processes and policies as they relate to the overarching governance framework.


Primary duties & responsibilities:



  • Draw up contracts, agreements, internal policies, and other legal documents and ensure that they comply with all statutory or legal requirements.

  • Research different information to make sure the corporation is acting in accordance with all applicable laws.

  • Keep abreast of legislative changes and anticipate unique legal issues that may impact the company.

  • Provide a detailed explanation of relevant external policy or regulation to give insight or understanding of laws of the regions where the company is present and other potential regions.

  • Support the effective internal standard compliance plan.

  • Manage, protect, and defend the company’s intellectual property rights.

  • Undertake pre-incorporation, incorporation, and post-incorporation activities in Nigeria and other Countries.

  • Perform any other tasks assigned.


Skills:



  • Articulate, effective communication skills with the ability to communicate internally and externally (lawyers, regulators, clients) at all levels.

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Good Research Skills.

  • A high degree of professional ethics and integrity.

  • Conversant with the Companies and Allied Matters Act, and other regulatory Directives and Guidelines

  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality and data security.

  • Passionate team player with a growth mindset.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes.


Qualification:



  • A degree in Law.

  • Member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience as a lawyer with at least three years of cognate experience in corporate and commercial practice and intellectual property.

  • Experience developing and implementing risk standards and/or compliance frameworks
