Responsibilities



  • Work activities vary, according to the type of programme. Prior to the broadcast, however, presenters may be involved in:

    • Researching topics and background information for items to be featured on the programme;

    • Planning and rehearsing shows;

    • Writing, and sometimes memorising, scripts;

    • Liaising with other members of the production and technical team/s.



  • During the broadcast, presenters may be involved in:

    • Introducing and hosting programmes;

    • Interviewing guests in the studio, by telephone or on location;

    • Reading short news, traffic, sport or weather reports;

    • Reviewing books, films, music or newspapers;

    • Providing links between programmes;

    • Either reading from a script and/or autocue, or improvising;

    • Keeping the programme running to schedule - responding positively and quickly to problems or changes, and improvising where necessary;

    • Keeping in contact with the director and production team in the studio gallery, via ear-piece link.



  • After the broadcast, presenters may be involved in:

    • Meeting with the production crew to assess/review the broadcast;

    • Meeting with the production crew to advance plan the next broadcast.




Minimum Requirements



  • The Ideal candidate must have a clear and attractive speaking voice, confidence, a likeable personality and be quick witted to handle unexpected events smoothly.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the specialist subject and of current affairs generally, as well as a fluency for language and a natural reading style, an easy rapport with an audience and the ability to work well in a team would be an advantage.

  • A strong awareness of the technical aspects of getting a show on air, good planning, organisation and timing skills are also essential.

  • The perfect candidate for this role would be someone looking to put their skills to good use, they must have:

    • An outgoing and confident personality

    • Good spoken english

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills

    • A flexible approach

    • The ability to ‘think on their feet’ and ad-lib when necessary

    • Research and interviewing skills

    • Calmness under pressure and the ability to work to strict deadlines

    • Multi-tasking ability.
