Job Description
Must have strong analytical, strategic planning and communication skills, including an ability to work well with the chief executive officer, board members and other senior managers.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading, directing and coordinating all accounting and finance functions of the company
- Coordinating the preparation of internal and external financial statements
- Managing the relationship with external auditors
- Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting and finance staff
- Overseeing regulatory reporting, including tax and compliance
- Institute and execute a proper reporting structure and system
- Institute and integrate the accounting system into the chosen ERP system (and play a lead role in implementing the ERP)
- Establish and execute robust financial processes across the company
- Manage the budget process
- Establish and maintain proper internal control systems
- Identifying and managing business risks and insurance requirements
- Take the lead role in communicating financial results to investors and shareholders
Work Experience
- At least 10 years experience in accounting or finance including a minimum of 5 years in a management role.
- Candidate must have some experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE) and/or US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Previous experience in public accounting also is highly valued.
- Candidates for GM Finance should have held positions of increasing responsibility within an accounting department, such as CFO, Senior Manager, Senior Executive of Finance.
Education
- An undergraduate degree in accounting or finance perhaps combined with an MBA (not essential)
- A chartered professional accountant designation (CPA)
