Job Description



Must have strong analytical, strategic planning and communication skills, including an ability to work well with the chief executive officer, board members and other senior managers.


Responsibilities include:



  • Leading, directing and coordinating all accounting and finance functions of the company

  • Coordinating the preparation of internal and external financial statements

  • Managing the relationship with external auditors

  • Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting and finance staff

  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, including tax and compliance

  • Institute and execute a proper reporting structure and system

  • Institute and integrate the accounting system into the chosen ERP system (and play a lead role in implementing the ERP)

  • Establish and execute robust financial processes across the company

  • Manage the budget process

  • Establish and maintain proper internal control systems

  • Identifying and managing business risks and insurance requirements

  • Take the lead role in communicating financial results to investors and shareholders


Work Experience



  • At least 10 years experience in accounting or finance including a minimum of 5 years in a management role.

  • Candidate must have some experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE) and/or US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Previous experience in public accounting also is highly valued.

  • Candidates for GM Finance should have held positions of increasing responsibility within an accounting department, such as CFO, Senior Manager, Senior Executive of Finance.


Education



  • An undergraduate degree in accounting or finance perhaps combined with an MBA (not essential)

  • A chartered professional accountant designation (CPA)
