Job Summary



  • Performs routine and complex supervisory, clerical, administrative, and data processing work in the billing and collection of utility accounts. Ensures accurate billing for customer accounts and recording of payments received.


Essential Job Functions



  • Managing the utility billing function and collecting a significant percentage of the company’s revenue.

  • Training, supervising, evaluating, disciplines, and directing responsible positions tasked with billing customers, collecting payments and resolving problems for utility accounts.

  • Communicating directly with customers to resolve issues by providing detailed explanations regarding policies, procedures, ordinances/resolutions, billing issues, and collections processes when a customer challenges the system/process.

  • Researching and resolving problem accounts and metering issues.

  • Serving as liaison with third party vendor for printing and mailing the bills, revising layouts and processing download files.

  • Serving as liaison with third party vendor for collections of delinquent accounts.

  • Entering tariff schedule changes into the billing software to ensure accurate and proper calculation of utility bills.

  • Preparing memos, work orders, purchase requisitions and miscellaneous correspondences.

  • Processing utility bank draft transfers.

  • Performs other job duties as required


Education and Experience



  • A minimum of HND / BSc qualification

  • Five (5) years of responsible experience in utility billing and customer relations, with a minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.

  • experience in Electricity Sector is an added advantage.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Basic knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping terminology and methods

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Knowledge of computers and basic office software

  • Ability to learn specialized software for accounting, billing, and meters

  • Ability to troubleshoot and recognize issues and take appropriate steps to logically solve problems.

  • Ability to manage staff and assign/delegate tasks and responsibilities
