Leads and oversees operational and strategic activities of Internal control, risk, and compliance. Ensures internal control, risk, and compliance activities are aligned with best practices and executed across the organization’s business operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Internal Control
- Oversees operational activities of the internal control, risk, and compliance departments.
- Leads the implementation of a general control process to minimize risk and theft with the organization’s products.
- Approves internal control processes in line with best practices and identifies appropriate risk and mitigation strategies.
- Approves collection of raw materials into the organization that passes through quality assurance checks.
- Approves the acceptance or rejection of raw materials and ensures rejected materials leave the company’s premises.
- Oversees compliance with existing policies and procedures and makes recommendations for improvement where needed.
- Approves the implementation of internal control processes in line with best practices, risk, and mitigation strategies.
- Oversees the conduct of periodic checks to review the internal control system.
- Approves plans to carry out audits of the internal control functions across the board.
- Approves training recommendations for members of the internal control unit.
Risk
- Approves developed policies and procedures governing risk management; monitors departmental operations to ensure compliance and promotes operational efficiency.
- Proffers solutions to addressing business risks and liaises with heads of departments to develop risk mitigation strategies to aid business operations.
- Approves the implementation of current risk management policies and protocols.
- Reviews designed risk management policies and procedures to mitigate risks.
- Oversees the implementation of adequate measures put in place to serve as control factors against potential risks.
- Reviews risk reports and proposals on risk mitigation for presentation to executive leadership and staff.
- Approves risk management budgets and oversees budgetary allocations.
Compliance
- Approves quality control policies of suppliers to ensure they comply with the standards of the organization.
- Reviews recommendations to improve processes or procedures that reflect the process and quality standards of the company.
- Enforces policies and procedures relating to process and quality compliance.
- Conducts tests to ensure products meet regulatory requirements.
- Participates in the design and presentation of process improvement reports.
- Leads the performance of regular audits of company procedures, practices, and documents to identify possible weaknesses or risks.
Others
- Develops operational budgets for the department in line with the organization’s budget and oversee budgetary allocations.
- Designs a strategic road map to drive the control processes of the organization.
- Builds and develops strategic relationships with key stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Enforces organization-wide compliance with policies and procedures.
- Approve proposed developmental plans for staff in the department.
- Develops key performance metrics for department and ensures direct reports comply with performance management process.
- Identifies ways to motivate and develop team to perform at optimum.
- Identifies human resources for team and works with the HR department to identify the best qualified and suitable candidates.
- Provides advisory to management on generally accepted control, risk, and compliance processes and makes innovative recommendations for improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the chief executive officer.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 10-12 years of experience in audit, compliance, internal control, and risk management.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or other business-related fields from a reputable and accredited university.
- Masters or an MBA is an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office tools.
- Good understanding of the implementation of internal control processes.
- Proven expertise in risk analysis and credit management.
- Demonstrated understanding of business operations in the manufacturing industry.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Certification in the following: ICAN/ACCA/ICAN/CRMA/CIA
