To be responsible for providing reporters and producers with sufficient information to enable the editorial brief to be met in respect of style, content, form and any other special considerations.
Where appropriate and when instructed, to undertake any necessary re-writing.
Where necessary to restructure and generate new storylines within the scripts.
To generate creative ideas and long-term story ideas.
To turn drafts around quickly and creatively and to ensure all deadlines are met.
Where appropriate, to refer to the senior editors to resolve doubts or competing views that may arise in relation to the script at any time.
To co-ordinate and communicate all script changes to those concerned.
To seek new material and take steps to identify and encourage new writing talent.
To maintain an up-to-date awareness of emerging talent.
To ensure that scripts are prepared in the appropriate format.
Ensuring commissioned scripts are delivered to a standard and conform to the editorial brief.
Providing advice on all script related matters associated with the production.
Act as a key point of contact the between the writer and the production team, and manage and build the relationship.
Coordinating script changes, and generate creative story ideas and suggestions.
QUALIFICATION
HND or Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or related field.
At least 3 Years working experience in similar role
An understanding of copyright law, and the legal implications of the production process.
Strong Editorial Judgement
Experience of newsroom production systems and desktop editing
Evidence of a broad range of journalist interests including social affairs, international politics, public policy, world business and economic affairs, sciences and the Arts.
Excellent communication skills to receive, interpret and convey information accurately and concisely
