A haulage driver is a skilled professional who operates commercial vehicles to transport goods from one location to another. Some job duties include:
- Loading and unloading goods onto the vehicle using forklifts, cranes, or other equipment.
- Operating vehicles such as articulated lorries, box trucks, and other similar vehicles in adherence to safety regulations.
- Maneuvering large vehicles through different types of roads, traffic, and adverse weather conditions.
- Inspecting vehicles for adherence to service schedules, maintenance requirements, and safety standards.
- Planning and coordinating delivery routes to ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Communicating with customers to determine delivery requirements and to provide updates on delivery progress.
- Completing delivery paperwork such as delivery notes, manifests, and logs.
Requirements
- Candidates should possess an FSLC qualification with 3 - 5 years work experience.
- Haulage drivers must possess excellent driving skills, good communication skills, and be able to maintain a high level of concentration over long periods.
- They should also have good map reading skills and be comfortable with using technology such as GPS systems and electronic logging devices.
- Haulage drivers must be physically fit and able to lift and move heavy goods during loading and unloading tasks.
