Job Description
ROLE PURPOSE:
- The Nurse will work with the Field Medical Doctors to provide clinical care for childhood and maternal health needs. S/He will also maintain accurate patient records, provide input into SCI reports and actively participate in the smooth functioning of the supported PHCs.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Provision of high-quality Nursing care to complicated SAM cases.
- Triage all patient coming to the primary healthcare centers
- Work with MOH staff to conduct detailed history taking, vital signs, physical examination and rapid testing
- Provide quality nursing clinical care to all patients seeking care at the supported health facilities
- Ensure Nursing and clinical care provided is in accordance with the National guidelines
- Ensure caregiver are well informed about the health condition of their patients
- Work closely with facility staff to conduct regular health information sessions on adequate nutrition, health seeking behaviour, facility delivery, childhood immunization, family planning etc.
- Provide group and one-on-one counselling during ANC and PNC
- Provide adequate support to mother with special needs
- Ensure all ANC attendees receive routine care
- Ensure delivery are conducted in line with best practice
- Ensure rooming-in and bedding-in and essential newborn care
- Provide adequate counselling for patients with chronic non-communicable diseases
- Report any medical or clinical complications on timely basis to the doctor and other team members.
- Mentor and provide on-the-job training on clinical topics and documentation to CHEW and J-CHEW
- Respect of approved protocols for management of childhood and maternal conditions.
- Correct use of programme monitoring and evaluation (recording) tools in reporting and recording.
- Appropriate use of resources, stock control and ordering procedures.
- Ensure requisition for medicines are done on a timely manner considering buffer stocks
- Ensure compliance with standard medical precaution and standard medical waste management
- Work with the field medical officer, MOH team to conduct outreach services providing quality live saving health interventions
- Support community level health meetings, trainings and other engagement in close coordination with community health mobilization assistant.
- Ensure the utilization of medicines, medical supplies, other medical commodities are routinely documented in the relevant tools
- Ensure timely collection and compilation of quality data for the production of quantitative and qualitative reports regarding all SC activities.
- Support the nurse in charge in the development of weekly and monthly reports on activities, and any other ad hoc report that may be required.
- Participate in medical meetings
- Conduct weekly disease surveillance reporting

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
- B.Sc. Nursing or RN,RM
- At least two years post-graduation experience
- Previous experience with NGOs and humanitarian setting
- Experience in Nutrition and in community based programmes
- Training and experience on treatment of acute malnutrition
- Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
- Fluency in English, Kanuri and Hausa
- Ability to work in partnership with government and other NGO staff
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Valid practice license
