Job Summary



  • The Lead Well Engineer is responsible for all drilling, completion, workover, and through tubing wells designs, and programming for ratification and approval by leadership, and the Partners’ Technical & Operational committee.


Key Roles and Responsibilities



  • To liaise with the team to handle all drilling, completion, workover, and through tubing wells designs, and programming for ratification and approval by leadership, and the Partners’ Technical & Operational committee.

  • To work with the team to ensure that all drilling, completion, and workover operations are carried out and completed within target dates and AFE.

  • To supervise the drilling and all operational activities to ensure that all wells’ activities are always carried out

  • within the industry’s best practices.

  • To coordinate the selection of appropriate drilling and workover rigs, and review and update all rig-related contracts with rig contractors.

  • To provide professional support for all drilling and completion service contracting processes with a view to selecting suitable contractors for all drilling and completion operations for leadership approval.

  • To ensure that all materials, equipment, and tools to be engaged and employed in all drilling, completion, and workover operational activities are to the required industry standard and to the desired design specification.

  • To coordinate the activities of all service contractors and vendors to ensure that equipment, materials, and personnel are mobilized in time to avoid any down time.

  • To ensure that a proper inventory of all operational materials, equipment, and tools and stock level are monitored closely and relevant stock is replenished to avoid any operational downtime.

  • To coordinate all operational reports for NUPRC, other government agencies, and stakeholders.

  • To ensure that all operations are carried out in line with laid down NUPRC and other regulatory bodies’

  • procedures; To provide the needed liaison on operations with the NUPRC, and other governmental agencies.

  • To undertake periodic review of Company’s drilling, completion, workover, and rig less operational practices in line with current oil field practices and recommending strategies for improvements.

  • To work within a team to plan and execute all rig and rigless well operations.

  • Participate in regular safety inspections and audits of equipment, materials, and areas

  • To work with all the parties to ensure that Company closes out all contracts with service providers, rig contracts and various contract documents drafted for leadership review.

  • To work with team members and service providers to ensure that all equipment, downhole accessories, and tools are in premium condition in readiness for well operation.

  • To work with team to prepare AFE’s for the Wells for leadership and JV approvals.


Qualifications & Experience



  • Minimum of B.Eng. M.Eng. (Advantage)/ IWCF OR IADC/SPE, NAPE/AAPG.

  • Minimum of 10 years cognate experience, and responsible for planning and executing operations that drill for oil and gas

  • Must have been involved in the entire drilling life cycle, from initial Well design to testing, to supervising a drilling crew.

  • Must have worked with teams of geologists, drilling contractors, and other construction managers.

  • Must have worked in onshore or offshore drilling locations.

  • Computer literacy with extensive software proficiency covering a wide variety of applications such as Compass, Casing seat, Stress check, Wellplan, Eclipse, Navigator, Wellflo, Pansystem, IPM Suite, and all Microsoft office.

  • Engineering expertise – the ability to use analysis, mathematical calculations, and engineering principles to get the job done.

  • Drilling design – the ability to plan and execute drilling designs and operations is essential to this role

  • Data analysis – must be able to conduct a thorough analysis of relevant data obtained from drilling sites for strategic planning.

  • Budgeting – must be able to prepare project budgets and carefully monitor costs
