Job Description
Every day will be different, but key responsibilities will include:
- Motivate and engage team members across the business, supporting their development and managing performance in the context of a high-profile and political program of reform.
- Creating, communicating, and implementing the organization’s vision, mission, and overall direction.
- Working with the Board of Trustees and the Management Team to develop and implement high-quality business strategies, plans, and policies; ensuring their alignment with the short-term and long-term objectives of the rail business.
- Own revenue targets, drive opportunities and maintain a robust pipeline to sustain year-over-year growth
- Design ambitious cash transfer programs and accompanying budget
- Lead implementation of the organization’s approach to modernization of working arrangements in the train operating company,
- Lead the development of the company’s business cases for workforce reform workstreams.
- Accountable for the discharge of the company’s obligations in the collaboration agreement with the State Government, and the delivery of an effective rail contract management system.
- Act as the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for the delivery of rail station and infrastructure projects in the catchment area, and work to ensure the successful delivery of new and improved rail infrastructure within a defined program.
- Influence, support, and advise political leadership, the federal and state government
We are looking for someone who meets the below criteria:
- Has outstanding leadership skills with the ability to inspire staff and build engagement and capability to deliver; driving an inclusive and performance culture that achieves results, and encouraging, supporting, and coaching individuals and teams to energize delivery;
- Has the ability to build and establish credible collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholders at a senior level across government and with senior rail industry figures.
- Is comfortable with and has experience in working at pace and dealing with a significant level of change and ambiguity.
- Is highly articulate and credible at the most senior levels and demonstrates experience in providing simplified advice on complex issues, particularly where such advice may be challenging or controversial
- Is able to negotiate with and influence external partners and stakeholders successfully at the highest levels;
- Previous experience working in rail commercial/contractual type roles would be a significant asset
- Able to demonstrate understanding of Nigeria Railway safety management system
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in a similar role in railway transport, aviation, or a similar industry
It’s not essential, but we would love it if you have:
- In-depth understanding of the railway industry and its needs and interfaces
- Knowledge of relevant standards and procedures
