Role description


This role requires overseeing the communications efforts of the organization, including public relations and marketing across all of Sydani’s communication platforms including the company website and social media channels. The candidate will be required to conduct market research to understand clients’ needs and preferences, communicate with media personnel, implement communication policies and procedures to uphold the company’s brand image, oversee press relations and improve brand visibility and reputation. The individual must be a critical and analytical thinker. 


Duties and Responsibilities:  


Develop 



  1. Author external communications, including annual reports, press releases, newsletters, wish stories, fundraising appeals, event programs and scripts, stewardship letters, emails, blogs, and other marketing collateral.

  2. Conduct interviews with key stakeholders and communicate their impact through stories and videos.

  3. Develop targeted outreach to stakeholders, including leadership‐, community, and volunteer‐specific communications.

  4. Develop strategies and systems to profile and target audiences and adapt content to deliver customized messaging.


Manage 



  1. Oversee all distributed communications to ensure consistent brand messaging and coordinated organizational direction.

  2. Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to align department strategies with mission delivery and initiatives.

  3. Direct and supervise Graphic Design & Brand Manager, Senior Wish & Content Coordinator interns, and volunteers to ensure completion of responsibilities and projects.

  4. Manage timelines and delivery of projects.  

  5. Build and foster relationships with key stakeholders, including local media, community leaders, volunteers, donors, and vendors.


Execute 



  1. Disseminate external communications through multiple media channels (digital, print, and broadcast)

  2. Lead media and public relations by coordinating news segments.

  3. Actively participate at Sydani events

  4. Maintain the Sydani website.

  5. Serve as a resource for all other communications, including surveys and grants

  6. Undertake projects, as required, and perform other related job duties, as assigned


Specific Tasks



  1. Regularly update the company website with appealing content

  2. Design/curate and disseminate distinct types of content across all communication channels to improve brand visibility and reputation

  3. Create and produce internal newsletters for the organization.

  4.  Manage the company’s or organization’s social media communications.

  5. Design graphic content/video contents

  6. Oversee press relations communications.

  7. Track analytics to glean insights and refine communications strategy to improve performance

  8. Maintain an archive of the company’s digital media including photos and videos

  9. Participate in the problem-solving, ideation, and capacity building sessions including new staff onboarding and staff mentoring programs 

  10. Participate in periodic performance reviews and provide feedback to team members for performance improvement as applicable.


Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications and competencies.  



  1. Bachelor’s degree (first-class or second-class upper) in communications, social and digital media, marketing and advertising, public relations, or similar fields is essential. A master’s degree is desirable.

  2. A Masters degree will be an advantage

  3. Experience in the development/NGO/Consulting sector will be required

  4. At least 3 years of professional experience in any of the communications fields. Experience as a social media handler in a management consulting firm, or in the development sector is an added advantage.

  5. Proven experience in digital marketing and content creation. Samples of work will be required as evidence.

  6. Able to design graphic/video content

  7. Experience with diverse print and online media technologies.

  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  9. Strong interpersonal, teamworking, and networking skills

  10. The ability to plan, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.

  11. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 

  12. Results-orientedness.
