Job Description



Main Functions



  • The prime objective for the Fixed Equipment Strategy Specialist is to co-ordinate and facilitate fixed equipment strategy development for the site.

  • The role also provides materials engineering support for routine and turnaround activities for the site.


Tasks and Responsibilities

In addition to Level 1 tasks and responsibilities, Level 2:



  • Manages the facility-wide maintenance function to ensure the availability of safe, responsive, high quality, repair and maintenance services including preventive, routine, non-routine and emergency capabilities.

  • Provide necessary development, motivation, coordination and internal cooperation for groups/individuals under his/her control in order to maximize efficiency.

  • Facilitate the Fixed Equipment Strategy program (to meet Global Reliability System (GRS) 6C requirements)

  • Responsible to establish annual and 5 year fixed equipment strategy plans with the business teams for fixed equipment and piping

  • Update/optimize equipment strategies based upon incidents, equipment history, and analysis

  • Steward equipment strategy implementation versus plan to the business team

  • Facilitate process steps of the Fixed Equipment strategy development process

  • Participate in the Materials, Corrosion, Inspection – Fixed Equipment (MCI-FE) network as a network member, bringing global benefits to the site. Participate in peer assist and network activities (Inspection Management Systems Assessment (IMSA), Turnaround and Integrated Event (TR) reviews, etc.)

  • Provide support for metallurgical analysis of failures and assistance in materials related RCFA

  • Recommend material selection for major equipment replacement/upgrades

  • Responsible for evaluation of new crude processing and coordinating Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for incidents where material performance failed to meet site expectations

  • Co-ordinate responses to MCI-FE Network High Consequence Failure postings under the guidance of the Chief Inspector

  • Support unit inspectors in analyzing operating, maintenance and non-destructive testing data to establish the remaining life of the equipment and recommend repairs and/or replacement to extend unit run lengths.


Skills and Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering within discipline or equivalent professional experience

  • 10 - 30 years relevant work experience.

  • Strong knowledge of discipline design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria

  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs

  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as it applies to technical and business communications.
