Our client in the Oil and Gas industry is currently receiving applications for the role of Assistant Manager Technical Operations
The Assistant Manager Technical Operations will be responsible for designing, building, supervising, operating, and maintaining small/large construction projects and systems, such as roads, buildings, tunnels, bridges, community water supply, and drainage.
The Assistant Manager Technical Operations will collaborate with the client’s representatives, contract managers, and stakeholders to resolve contractual, and technical issues.
These include contract negotiation, project planning, procurement, bidding, and risk management.
He/she will perform effective Operations Management under the supervision of the Chief Operations Officer.
Responsibilities
Prepare design specifications and incorporate special features which relate to the project at hand into specifications. These include order of work, physical conditions at the site, construction work schedules, method of payment and measurement, construction procedures and special methods, and coordination with contractors and other stakeholders.
Visit the proposed project site to obtain the necessary information for use in creating project specifications. This includes the condition and location of the project site, the location of storage and staging areas, and the character and scope of work.
Perform technical review on specifications to remove restrictive descriptions and ensure clarity, completeness, and exactness for competitive bidding.
Provide guidance and technical advice where necessary to various persons in the Engineering and Construction department to develop basic specification procedures and policies that cover new types of projects and structures, and to make clearer the various phases of the construction works.
Communicate with higher authorities on issues concerning specifications, engineering interpretations and explanations, supply of items, and offer recommendations on reviewing specifications.
Assist in reviewing deliverables/documents and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Lookout for opportunities to grow the company's business, whether through partnerships or new initiatives, and work to take advantage of those opportunities.
Assist the COO to also act in the capacity of company’s liaison representative with IOCs, clients and partners.
Actively monitor the company’s deliverables with third-party contractors in alignment with contracts.
Provide technical oversight in flagging potential risk outcomes.
Assist the management in providing strategic direction and critical thinking/analysis in decision-making.
Provide strategic advisory and support to the management team on all initiatives to grow and structure the company.
Engage and collaborate with the client’s contract managers, third-party partners, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the companies deliver on assigned projects and contracts.
Drive negotiation between the company, third party contractors, partners, IOC and other relevant stakeholders where applicable.
Communicate with parties in any contract so that they all understand the terms, particularly the contract’s financial implications.
Assess risks and make recommendations based on a thorough analysis of all factors involved in a business situation.
Supervise the procurement team on purchases and transactions.
Coach employees on best practices for managing contract issues and handling daily issues and tasks.
Work efficiently and calmly within tight deadlines or when other stress factors arise.
Assist in ensuring adherence to regulatory policies and procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment for the project team.
Establish testing methods to monitor the overall quality of a project.
Schedule and monitor engineering tasks.
Analyse project information to create status reports and recommend future actions.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
Master's degree in Business Management, Business Administration or any related field will be an added advantage
Minimum of 6 years' relevant experience (with at least 4 years' in Oil & Gas)
Professional certification of COREN & NSE as well as relevant HSE Training/Certification by an accredited professional body
Civil works experience alongside Business development experience
Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
Solid understanding of and ability to adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations
Strong ability to supervise tendering procedures and compile job specifications
Ability to conduct effective technical and feasibility studies
Ability to effectively monitor and drive project activities
Strong organisational and site management skills to effectively coordinate site activities
Ability to perform calculation, dimensioning, and control of concrete and metallic construction
Profound ability to carry out safety analysis and stability and quality control
Ability to effectively work with professionals from other fields, including subcontractors and architects
Strong ability to plan and manage project resources and budgets
Excellent use of relevant civil engineering software programmes, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability and willingness to travel frequently – for at least 40% of the time
