Job Summary
The Head of Internal Control is responsible for the development and implementation of the Internal Control framework of the Bank. The job holder will develop policies and procedures and monitor compliance in line with external regulations.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive internal control framework across the organization to mitigate risks and enhance the reliability of financial reporting and business operations.
- Assess the effectiveness of existing internal control processes, identify gaps, and recommend improvements to management.
- Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures, ensuring they are in line with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and corporate guidelines.
- Monitor and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls in key operational areas, including financial processes, procurement, inventory management, and information technology.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential areas of vulnerability and implement appropriate control measures to mitigate risks.
- Perform periodic reviews and audits of business processes to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to educate and train employees on internal control procedures and promote a culture of accountability and compliance.
- Investigate and resolve instances of non-compliance or control deficiencies, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Stay updated on changes in regulations, accounting standards, and industry practices related to internal controls, and assess their impact on the organization.
- Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies during audits and examinations, providing necessary documentation and information as required.
- Prepare reports and presentations on the effectiveness of internal controls, including findings, recommendations, and action plans, for management and board-level review.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A masters degree or professional certification is preferred.
- ICAN or ACA will be an advantage.
- Proven experience (not less than 5 years) working in internal control, and internal audit in diverse industries.
- Strong knowledge of internal control frameworks and best practices in risk management and corporate governance.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP) is highly desirable.
- Proficient in conducting risk assessments, designing control procedures, and performing internal control evaluations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to identify control deficiencies.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in using relevant software applications, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, for data analysis, reporting, and presentation purposes.
