Overview of Position    



  • The LGA Facilitator will provide that essential link between the section & the LGA of implementation, serving to coordinate & supervise nutrition activities at the LGA level.

  • S / He will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day implementation of nutrition activities across our client-supported implementation sites.

  • S / He will also supervise the daily operations of the Ward Nutrition Supervisors, with a specific focus on ensuring quality implementation & data reporting.

  • The LGA Facilitator will also play a prominent role in reporting on the changing humanitarian situation within their LGAs & will enable our client & their partners to adapt in a timely & appropriate response to the changing situation.

  • In the context of increasing insecurity with limited travel to implementation sites by our clients staff, LGA Facilitators’ presence in the field provides a much-needed means for program monitoring to ensure maintenance of quality of implementation according to national & international protocols as well as an independent layer of accountability.


Role objectives     



  • Coordination & supervision of nutrition activities including but not limited to Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), Maternal Infant & Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) counselling, Micronutrient Powder (MNP) & Maternal, Newborn & Child Week (MNCHW) within LGA of assignment in collaboration with the LGA Nutrition Focal Person.

  • Provide weekly update on the humanitarian situation & relevant updates on the changes, such as influx of new Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) or disruption to services.

  • Ensure that national guidelines are followed for the provision of nutrition services at the community & facility levels.

  • Ensure adequate stock of key commodities [Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), MNP] are available within the LGA & at health facilities.

  • Monitor the distribution & utilization of nutrition commodities & provide reports on suspected misuse to supervisor.

  • Participate in meetings at LGA & state level as required.

  • Supervise the Ward Nutrition Supervisors & provide regular updates on the functioning of the community structures to the supervisor, including compiling & validation of data from nutrition implementing sites.

  • Ensure appropriate supply chain management at LGA & health facility levels including timely requisition of nutrition supplies, storage in conducive conditions & report of inappropriate storage conditions or any other form of supply mismanagement to supervisor.

  • Coordinate the activity of Community Nutrition Mobilizers.

  • Any other duties assigned by supervisor that are in line with the general job description.


Deliverables:



  • Provide bi-weekly & monthly reports on the numbers of children receiving nutrition services & other key nutrition indicators as required.

  • Provide bi-weekly updates on the functioning of the community nutrition volunteers & Ward Nutrition Supervisors.

  • Provide bi-weekly updates on the delivery of nutrition services at the facility level.

  • Provide bi-weekly updates on the status of nutrition supplies at the facility & LGA level.


Project reporting:  



  • This role reports to the line manager.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Nutrition or a Health-related field or equivalent qualifications (essential).


Sector experience:



  • Minimum of 3 year/s of demonstrable relevant Nutrition Management experience (essential).


Geographical experience:



  • Minimum of 3 year/s of experience in Africa (essential).


Languages:



  • Fluent in English (essential).

  • Fluent in Hausa (essential).


Key competencies:



  • Degree in Public Health, Nutrition or a Health-related field or equivalent qualifications.

  • Must be computer literate.

  • Fluency in English & Hausa is compulsory.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in health / public health program management.

  • Experience in working with communities on nutrition or other health-related issues.

  • Experience working in emergencies will be an advantage.

  • Good verbal & communication skills.

  • Working with people.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
