Our client an asset management company in Lagos, Nigeria, is seeking to employ skilled Compliance Officer to join their dynamic team. As a compliance officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the company's adherence to regulatory requirements, promoting ethical conduct, and mitigating compliance risks.
Responsibilities:
- To ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, thereby safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the company.
- Proactively identify and address potential compliance risks and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an effective compliance framework and program that aligns with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines to ensure ongoing compliance and provide timely updates to management and staff.
- Conduct regular compliance reviews and audits to identify any potential gaps or areas for improvement, and develop and implement appropriate remedial actions.
- Provide guidance and training to employees on compliance-related matters, including regulatory obligations, code of conduct, and policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective compliance monitoring and reporting mechanisms, including the review and assessment of business activities, transactions, and records.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as legal, risk management, and operations, to ensure compliance requirements are embedded into business processes and practices.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities, managing inspections, inquiries, and reporting obligations.
- Conduct investigations into potential compliance breaches, including gathering evidence, conducting interviews, and preparing detailed reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and emerging regulatory developments, and provide guidance and recommendations to senior management.
Report Line:
You will report directly to the Managing Director working closely with other departments to ensure a comprehensive compliance program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. A master's degree would be an advantage.
- Professional certifications in compliance, such as Certified Compliance Professional (CCP) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), are highly desirable.
- Membership in professional organizations such as the Compliance Institute of Nigeria (CIN) or the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) would be an advantage.
Competencies:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Nigerian regulatory requirements applicable to the asset management industry, including SEC regulations and guidelines.
- Strong understanding of anti-money laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and other compliance-related frameworks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulations and assess their impact on the business.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a strong sense of ethics and integrity.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proactive approach to identifying and mitigating compliance risks, with a solutions-oriented mindset.
- Proficient in using compliance management systems and tools.
