Responsibilities
- Perform a range of laboratory tests and analyses on metal and mineral samples using standard testing techniques and equipment.
- Prepare samples for analysis, including sample cleaning, crushing, grinding, pulverizing and acid digestion of samples as necessary.
- Conduct chemical, physical, and mineralogical analyses of metal and mineral samples.
- Ensure samples are catalogued and stored in an efficient and easily retrievable manner
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Ensuring proper calibration and set up of laboratory equipment prior to analysis
- Record and analyze test data, prepare accurate reports, and maintain meticulous documentation of laboratory activities and findings.
- Adheres to all safety, heath and environmental protocols.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables, ensuring availability for testing activities.
- Adhere to laboratory quality control procedures and reports discrepancies to supervisor
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting enhancements to testing methods, processes, and procedures.
Education
- Degree or Higher diploma in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Geology, or a related field.
Discipline
Requisite Skills
- Must be familiar with XRF, AAS or ICP-OES Instruments
Specific work experience
- 3-5years in Mineral testing field
- Professional certifications / licenses
- Relevant certifications or training in laboratory techniques and safety protocols are desirable.
Other considerations
Experience of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) and working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory will be an added advantage.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably in metal and mineral testing.
- Strong understanding of laboratory testing techniques, equipment, and procedures specific to metal and mineral analysis.
- Familiarity with industry standards and quality control procedures related to metal and mineral testing.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in recording and analyzing data.
- Proficient in using laboratory software and data management systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
