RESPONSIBILITIES


The Assistant Underwriting Officer supports Underwriters in daily activities (processing) that provide services to customers.


DUTIES / JOB DETAILS


The incumbent will carry out the following functions:



  • Perform underwriting support activities associated with information gathering of all businesses, renewals, and mid-term changes on behalf of the Underwriter.

  • Prepare renewal and new business quotations proposals to cedants and brokers

  • Maintain Proper records of all businesses offers and transactions received and concluded

  • Working directly with Underwriters to help manage and support their renewal and new business book.

  • Ensure that all the treaties/facultative contracts are processed and the cover notes/slips/wordings signed and sent out to cedants and brokers.

  • Attending to client enquiries, social and business functions and other related activities for overall marketing effectiveness.

  • Assisting the finance team in viewing the reconciliation of cedant and broker accounts and chasing outstanding amounts due from them while also ensuring timely remittance of amount due to them.

  • Any other duties that may be required or assigned 


COMPETENCIES AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Good technical knowledge with regard to Insurance and Reinsurance underwriting, Retrocession, Claims as well as risk assessment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, detailed oriented and customer service focused

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Office 365, SharePoint, Teams

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Self-motivated

  • Willingness to learn and to work long hours.

  • Ability to work under pressure, without close supervision and within established timeframes.

  • Ability to multitask and manage change.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills (i.e., conceptual, and analytical thinking).

  • High level of Integrity and proven sense of responsibility.

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and knowledge of integrated business-related software’s will be an added advantage.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Good team player with proven leadership and managerial experience.

  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input and is willing to learn from others.

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment.

  • Experience and knowledge in a Re/Insurance system will be an added value.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Insurance/Actuarial Science or relevant field

  • Minimum of 2 Years of relevant work experience in Underwriting or Claims fields in the Insurance and/or Reinsurance industry.

  • Additional professional qualifications in insurance and working knowledge in French language shall be an added advantage.

  • Relevant Working Exposure in a Multicultural Environment will be an added advantage.
