Job Description
As an Optician, you will play a pivotal role in helping individuals achieve optimal visual clarity and comfort. You will work closely with optometrists and ophthalmologists to assess patients' eyewear needs, dispense prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses, and provide expert advice on frame selection and proper lens fitting. Your strong interpersonal skills and technical knowledge will be key as you interact with patients, ensuring a positive experience and satisfaction with their eyewear choices.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on their visual needs, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
- Take accurate measurements of patients' pupillary distance, bridge width, and temple length to ensure proper fitting of eyeglasses.
- Utilize lensometry equipment to determine lens power and specifications for prescription eyewear.
- Perform adjustments and repairs on eyeglasses to maintain optimal fit and functionality.
- Educate patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care, including cleaning, insertion, and removal techniques.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest eyewear trends, lens technologies, and product offerings to provide informed recommendations to patients.
- Collaborate with optometrists and ophthalmologists to ensure accurate prescription interpretation and alignment with patients' eye health needs.
- Maintain inventory of eyewear products, including frames, lenses, and contact lenses, and assist with ordering when necessary.
- Provide exceptional customer service, addressing any concerns or issues that patients may have with their eyewear.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification as an optician is preferred.
- Proven experience working as an optician or in a related field.
- Sound knowledge of optical principles, lens technologies, and eyewear products.
- Familiarity with various vision insurance plans and ability to navigate insurance billing processes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with patients of diverse backgrounds.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately measure and fit eyewear.
- Proficient in using lensometry and other optical equipment.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to manage inventory effectively.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
