Job Description
OVERVIEW:
The Junior Accountant is responsible for assisting the accounting team with various tasks, including preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and performing other related duties as required, providing valuable support while gaining practical experience in the field.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with maintaining an organized filing system.
- Daily data entry preparation.
- Ensure the basic bookkeeping records are up to date.
- Ensure that the POS machines are up and running.
- Frequent check of financial documents and post transactions.
- Prepare payment vouchers.
- Assist the accountant in preparing invoices and expense reports.
- Identify and flag discrepancies.
- Assist with bank reconciliations and monthly financial closing processes.
- Support the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.
- Help with accounts payable and accounts receivable management.
- Assist with tax preparation and filing, as needed.
- Collaborate with the accounting team on budgeting and financial forecasting.
- Participate in financial audits, as required.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned to support the accounting team.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of financial software and tools (such as Sage One).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Familiarity with data entry and bookkeeping tasks.
- Knowledge of tax laws and regulations (a plus, but not required for an junior role).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a B.Sc./HND in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
- At least 1 year of experience in accounting or finance roles, including internships.
- Pursuing or interested in obtaining a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) is an advantage.
