Summary:


As the Lead Intensive Care Nurse, you will play a critical role in leading and coordinating the nursing team in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care to critically ill patients while promoting a positive and supportive work environment for the nursing staff.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • The Lead Intensive Care Nurse will collaborate with the medical team, provide mentorship and guidance to the nursing staff, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the ICU.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the ICU nursing team, fostering a collaborative and cohesive work environment.

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure effective patient care planning and delivery.

  • Lead and facilitate team meetings, huddles, and education sessions to enhance staff knowledge and performance.

  • Allocate nursing resources efficiently to maintain optimal patient care standards.

  • Oversee and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care within the ICU.

  • Ensure that patient care plans are developed and followed according to the best practices and evidence-based guidelines.

  • Monitor and manage critically ill patients, identifying changes in their condition and responding appropriately.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.

  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and ongoing feedback to nursing staff to enhance their clinical skills and professional growth.

  • Coordinate and facilitate staff training and continuing education programs to ensure the team's competence and compliance with regulations.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the ICU.

  • Promote adherence to hospital policies, protocols, and safety standards to ensure patient safety and quality care.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and monitor performance indicators to enhance the overall quality of care provided by the ICU.

  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to address any areas of improvement or concerns.

  • Collaborate with other department leads and healthcare professionals to promote efficient patient flow and interdisciplinary communication.

  • Participate in hospital committees, as required, to represent the ICU's interests and contribute to hospital-wide initiatives.

  • Demonstrate effective leadership during emergencies, ensuring swift and appropriate actions are taken to stabilize patients and maintain safety.


Qualifications and Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required; Master's Degree in Nursing or related field is preferred.

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience in critical care nursing, with demonstrated expertise in intensive care.

  • Proven leadership experience in a nursing supervisory or managerial role.

  • Strong knowledge of critical care protocols, procedures, and evidence-based practices.

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure, handle complex situations, and make sound decisions.

  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and other relevant healthcare software.
