Responsibilities



  • Assisting Surgeons during surgical procedures in the theatre.

  • Developing and implementing nursing care plans for surgical patients.

  • Maintaining a hygienic and safe working environment.

  • Providing nursing care before, during, and after patients undergo surgery or a non-surgical procedure.

  • Administration of drugs via oral, intravenous, intramuscular, dermal, topical, inhalation, and subcutaneous routes and identification of drug reactions and adverse effect

  • Collaborating with surgical Teams and other medical professionals on patient medication and post-surgery care,

  • Fluid, blood, and blood products administration as well as I/O management

  • Identifying and reading basic laboratory values.

  • Oxygen administration

  • Insertion of male and female Foley catheter for the collection of urine samples, proper monitoring of intake and output, and for temporary drainage of urine.

  • Providing surgical patients with perioperative care.

  • Designs a high-quality nursing care plan for each client and evaluating its efficacy by documenting outcomes

  • Proper utilization of surgical checklist

  • Circulating patients during surgical procedure

  • Providing patients with post-surgery care instructions and answering questions.

  • Ensures every member of the surgical team is properly dressed before a surgical procedure

  • Proper handling of surgical instruments and equipment according to practicing standards.

  • Inventory taking and keeping proper Documentation by updating patient files and medical records at the Medical records unit.


Requirements



  • A Registered Nurse with Training and Certification in relevant nursing specialties and procedures (RPON certification).

  • Full registration with a valid practice license with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

  • Experience in theatre/demonstrated relevant clinical nursing experience, preferably in a surgical environment.

  • A good team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patients and family and client facility staff.

  • Resuscitation skills and procedures-BLS, ALS,

  • Attention to detail

  • Professional and ethical.
