Role Overview
- The French Teacher at Charterhouse Lagos plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality French language classes to students, fostering a love for the French language and Francophone cultures.

Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Delivery:
- Develop a comprehensive French language curriculum that aligns with the school’s educational goals and meets national and international language standards.
- Design and deliver engaging lessons that cater to students’ varying levels of proficiency, integrating speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
- Incorporate a variety of learning focussed strategies, resources, and authentic materials to make language learning meaningful and enjoyable.
Language Proficiency and Fluency:
- Demonstrate a high level of fluency in the French language, serving as a linguistic model for students.
- Teach proper pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure, ensuring students develop accurate language skills.
- Provide opportunities for authentic language use through role-plays, discussions, and interactive activities.
- Cultural Understanding and Appreciation:
- Introduce students to the rich cultural heritage of French-speaking countries, including their history, traditions, literature, and art.
- Foster an appreciation for cultural diversity and promote cross-cultural understanding through exploration of Francophone customs, festivals, and traditions.
- Incorporate cultural activities and projects that allow students to connect with French-speaking communities and enhance their global awareness.
Differentiation:
- Assess students’ language proficiency levels and learning styles to differentiate teaching and meet individual needs.
- Provide personalized feedback and guidance to support students’ language development, setting goals for improvement and monitoring progress.
- Utilize a variety of pedagogical techniques, materials, and technologies to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Assess students’ language skills regularly using formative and summative assessment methods, including oral proficiency assessments, written assignments, and projects.
- Maintain accurate records of students’ progress, attendance, and achievements.
- Provide constructive feedback to students, guiding them in setting goals and supporting their language development.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Collaborate with colleagues to align language instruction with other subject areas and promote interdisciplinary connections.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in French Language, French Literature, or a related field. A postgraduate degree or teaching qualification is advantageous.
- Teaching certification or relevant teaching qualification.
- Native or near-native fluency in French, with a strong command of grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
- Proven experience in teaching French as a second language, preferably in a primary school setting.
- In-depth knowledge of language acquisition methodologies and current trends in French language education.
- Excellent pedagogical and classroom management skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
