Role Overview
- The Physical Education Teacher at Charterhouse Lagos is responsible for delivering a comprehensive physical education curriculum that promotes students’ physical fitness, motor skills development, and overall well-being.
- This position requires a passionate and knowledgeable educator who can inspire and engage students in various physical activities, foster a positive attitude toward health and fitness, and instill values of teamwork and sportsmanship.
- The Physical Education Teacher plays a crucial role in creating a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages students to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.
Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Delivery:
- Develop and implement a dynamic and progressive physical education curriculum that aligns with national standards and the school’s vision and values.
- Plan and deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that cater to students’ diverse abilities, interests, and needs.
- Incorporate a variety of physical activities, sports, and games to enhance students’ motor skills, physical fitness, and overall health.
Instruction and Skill Development:
- Teach students fundamental movement skills, sports techniques, and tactical understanding in a range of activities and sports.
- Provide differentiated learning opportunities and adapt teaching strategies to meet individual student needs, ensuring equitable access and participation for all.
- Foster a safe and supportive learning environment, promoting positive behaviour, fair play, and respect for oneself and others.
Fitness and Well-being:
- Educate students about the importance of physical fitness, healthy lifestyle choices, and personal well-being.
- Incorporate fitness activities and exercises into lessons, promoting cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, and coordination.
- Guide students in setting personal fitness goals and monitoring their progress, providing support and motivation.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Assess and evaluate students’ performance, skill development, and understanding of concepts through formative and summative assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to students, guiding them in setting targets for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of students’ progress, achievements, and areas for development.
Extracurricular Sports and Events:
- Organize and lead extracurricular sports clubs, teams, and events, providing opportunities for students to further develop their skills and passion for sports.
- Coordinate and participate in inter-school competitions, tournaments, and sports events, fostering school spirit and sportsmanship.
- Collaborate with colleagues and external coaches to enhance the overall sports program and create a well-rounded sports experience for students.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school staff to support students’ holistic development, including academic progress and well-being.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, providing updates on students’ progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
- Actively engage in professional development opportunities to stay abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in physical education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field.
- Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
- Extensive knowledge of physical education curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment strategies.
- Strong teaching and classroom management skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Experience in teaching a variety of sports and physical activities to students of different ages and abilities.
- Knowledge of child development, health, and fitness principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Passion for promoting physical fitness, well-being, and lifelong physical activity among students.
- Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
- First Aid certification is desirable.
