Job Role
- To be successful in this role, you should have strong editorial skills, extensive knowledge of PR and Communications strategies. The candidate should be a critical thinker and quite flexible.
Responsibilities:
- To develop PR campaigns and other media relations strategies that project the organization in a positive light.
- To manage the projects within the department, funded projects and other AfriLabs related matters published in the press to ensure they are up to par.
- To track the project timelines of all projects within the Communications department.
- To edit and update promotional material and publications (videos, social media posts etc)
- To organise and facilitate PR events where necessary and serve as a focal person for the organisation.
- To develop networks with PR agencies locally and across Africa.
- To address inquiries from the media and other parties.
- To prepare press releases, keynote speeches and other promotional materials.
- To prepare PR reports on a monthly basis and provide insights for continuous improvement.
- To manage the ideation stage of PR projects and to monitor communications strategy and social media content calendar while reporting on the outcome and impact.
- To form coalitions with 3rd party vendors to deliver on PR and communications related projects.
- To monitor media coverage, social media metrics, and other relevant communication channels to measure the impact of communication efforts.
- To work in tandem with other key departments to foster the engagement of the AfriLabs ecosystem.
- To perform any other duties as required by the line manager.
Required Skills, Qualifications & Abilities:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or any other related field.
Experience
- 4 years experience in public relations and/or a degree or relevant qualification in a PR/Marketing related field with 1 year managerial experience.
- Project Management Experience is a MUST.
- Experience in social media management and digital communication.
Skills
- Excellent ideation strategies for PR and Comms across projects, initiatives through other African countries
- Good understanding of social media platforms and strategic activities.
- Proficient using multi-social posting programs such as Hootsuite.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Google Suite Tools.
- Good knowledge of design principles.
- General knowledge of Search Engine Optimization and internet ranking for web content
- Relevant experience determining a target audience and how to capture their attention.
- Strong understanding of communications strategy and how to effortlessly utilise these concepts throughout various forms of outreach.
- Creative thinking skills are an added advantage.
- Ability to speak the French Language.
- A positive and proactive attitude towards work.
- A team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-motivated, highly organised and able to work to demanding deadlines.
