Objectives of this position



  • To meet student targets set by country and region and implement conversion activity which will help meet student targets and increase the percentage of high quality students recruited.

  • To communicate current and future recruitment activity to all levels of staff within the University and provide up to date market intelligence that will inform and develop University recruitment and marketing strategies.

  • To manage the University’s agent network for West Africa and facilitate relationships with key external influencers such as ministries and government sponsorship bodies.


Essential Knowledge required



  • HND / BSc

  • Up to date knowledge of Higher Education systems and government policy in Nigeria and other key markets across West Africa.

  • Up to date knowledge of the UK Higher Education system and application systems (e.g., UCAS).

  • Knowledge of broader external market environment

  • Broad understanding of related work areas and wider sectoral / external awareness.


Essential Experience Required:



  • 3 years relevant experience, including experience of Higher Education international recruitment, marketing or partnership development.

  • Working knowledge of the education systems across West Africa

  • Knowledge of the UK HE sector, including recruitment processes and infrastructure

  • Demonstrable success in recruitment, marketing or PR.

  • Market development and relationship management

  • Event attendance and presenting to an audience

  • Experience of complex administration within a pressurised working environment.

  • Experience of managing and processing data.

  • Lead or initiate projects with measurable outcomes beyond own team.


Essential Skills Required:



  • Self-motivated and able to work under own direction and initiative, and to a tight schedule.

  • To be able to show initiative and possess the ability to generate and implement new ideas and new approaches to student recruitment and partnership building.

  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, demonstrating an ability to deal with a wide range of people, including those holding senior positions.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral), including high-level negotiation skills and presentation skills.

  • Proven high-level communication skills, obtained through representational and negotiating activities

  • Project management skills

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly for identifying trends in markets, generating original ideas and innovative solutions

  • Understanding of business culture in West Africa.

  • Excellent time management, administrative and organisational skills, and attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of Word, Powerpoint, Excel and databases including Access

  • Experience of public-speaking.
