OVERALL FUNCTION
- The School of Computing (Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Data Science) at Miva Open University invites applications for the position of Senior Lecturer.
- The successful candidate will have a strong background in computer science, hold a Ph.D. in the relevant field, and be passionate about teaching and mentoring students. This is a full-time faculty position with a primary focus on undergraduate education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching:
- Develop and deliver undergraduate courses in computer science, with a focus on core topics such as algorithms, data structures, computer architecture, and software engineering.
- Create engaging and innovative teaching materials, including lectures, assignments, and assessments.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Community Development:
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of the computer science curriculum, ensuring alignment with industry trends and best practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create new courses and update existing ones to reflect emerging technologies and research.
Research and Scholarship:
- Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations, in areas related to computer science.
- Encourage and support undergraduate student research and projects.
Academic Advising:
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students on academic and career-related matters.
- Assist students in developing educational and career plans.
Service and Committee Work:
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, committees, and other service-related activities.
- Contribute to the academic and professional community through university service and outreach.
- Assist in student recruitment and outreach activities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- A Ph.D. in Computing (Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Data Science) or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Strong commitment to undergraduate education and a passion for teaching.
- Proven teaching experience in computer science courses at the undergraduate level.
- A record of scholarly activity, which may include publications, conference presentations, or equivalent.
- Experience with online and blended learning platforms.
- Familiarity with industry standards and trends in computer science.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and assessment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students in a diverse academic environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
