Job Overview



  • As the preschool nurse, you are responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of children enrolled in a preschool program.

  • You will work closely with parents, teachers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that children receive appropriate medical care and support, and will provide education and resources to promote healthy habits and prevent illness and injury.


Key Responsibilities



  • Conduct health assessments and screenings for all children enrolled in the preschool program, including immunizations, vision and hearing tests, and developmental screenings.

  • Develop and implement healthcare plans for children with chronic conditions, allergies, or other health concerns, in collaboration with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers.

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers, and maintain accurate records of medications and treatments administered.

  • Respond to and manage medical emergencies and injuries that occur during school hours, and communicate with parents and healthcare providers as needed.

  • Provide education and resources to parents and teachers on health and safety topics, including nutrition, hygiene, and injury prevention.

  • Monitor and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children, including ensuring that all staff and students are up-to-date on required immunizations and health screenings.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all students, and ensure that records are kept confidential and secure.

  • Communicate with parents and healthcare providers as needed to coordinate medical care and support for children.


Requirements



  • Registered nurse (RN) license.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a related field.

  • Relevant experience in pediatric nursing, with experience working in a school or childcare setting preferred.

  • Knowledge of child health and development, and experience with health assessments, screenings, and care planning.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Proficiency in medical record keeping and documentation.

  • Certification in CPR and first aid.


Physical Demands:



  • The preschool nurse will need to be able to lift and carry children who may need assistance, and may need to stand or sit for extended periods of time while conducting health assessments or providing medical care.

  • They may need to climb stairs or use ramps to access different areas of the school.


Working Conditions:



  • The preschool nurse will work a typical 8-hour workday, with occasional evening or weekend work for meetings or special events.

  • They will work in a climate-controlled environment, with frequent interaction with children, parents, and staff.

  • They will have access to necessary medical equipment and resources to provide care to children as needed.
