- This role is responsible for providing and administering anesthesia following approved guidelines and managing patients in the theatre, ER & the ICU.
Clinical Service Delivery:
- Responsible for the anesthesia and overall medical management during surgery
- Has primary responsibility for the ICU patient’s care
- Leads a team of expert caregivers in the management and care of the patient
- Oversees the many decisions involved in a critically ill patient’s care, and coordinates all the other services the patient may need, including those from other specialists
- Encouraged to follow the evidence-based guidelines along with the multispecialty team approach for improved patients outcome, including survival rates; reduced complications; shorter length of stay in the ICU & enhanced medication safety.
- Helps in optimizing the comorbid conditions of the patient for the safe outcome of the patient in the perioperative period
- To provide quality anesthetic care to patients
- Develop, implement and maintain a quality assurance programme for the anesthetic and intensive care service
- Deliver effective pain management techniques on patients
- Execute thorough evaluation of patient’s medical and surgical history to ascertain history of drug acceptance and reaction.
- Preparing patients for anesthesia and administering it
- Monitor vital signs during surgery
- Providing pre and post-operative care to patient
- Making cooperative decisions that are in the best interests of the patient
- Consult with other doctors on patient care
- Providing resuscitation services in case of emergency and disaster situations.
- Decide when a patient is ready to be discharged or be moved to a specific room
- Participate in clinical audit and quality programs as appropriate
Administrative Functions:
- Manage the administrative requirements of the hospital and patient care including planning and draft budgeting for anesthetic activities in the hospital.
- Be aware of and adhere to all Vedic Lifecare Hospital clinical practice policies and procedure.
- Coordinate the departmental activities with those of the hospital.
- Ensure accomplishment of quality training in the department.

- Relevant training and/or certifications as an Anaesthetist & Intensivist
Qualification and Experience
- MBBS from a recognized University with at least 15 years’ experience as a medical doctor.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Consultant Anaesthetist & Intensivist.
- Must show evidence of competence in management of anesthesia cases and evidence of active participation in relevant researches.
- Must be registered & licensed to practice by the Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria.

- Knowledge of the practices and techniques of surgery and medicine.

- Be able to stand for long periods of time, lifting, climbing, stooping, pulling and pushing
