Work location: Dutse, Jigawa State 


Key responsibilities:



  • Develop and draft social protection policies in alignment with state-level objectives and national social protection frameworks;

  • Conduct research and analysis on social protection needs and trends in the state;

  • Collaborate with government stakeholders, experts, and civil society organizations to ensure policy coherence and stakeholder buy-in;

  • Advocate for the adoption and implementation of evidence-based social protection policies;

  • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the state's social protection systems;

  • Develop and implement strategies to strengthen social protection delivery systems, including registration, targeting, and benefit payment mechanisms;

  • Develop and deliver training programs on social protection policies, systems, and programs;

  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing and peer learning among social protection stakeholders;

  • Mentor and coach government staff to improve their social protection skills and knowledge

  • Disseminate information and raise awareness about social protection issues among the general public;

  • Advocate for increased funding for social protection programs;

  • Enhance institutional capacity for social protection;

  • Strengthen the legal and regulatory framework for social protection;

  • Expand the coverage and effectiveness of social protection programs;

  • Contribute to key Programme planning, coordination, and reporting activities;

  • Identify problems in the implementation process and propose solutions;

  • Evaluate regularly the impact of the activities and propose changes for improvement;

  • Review and revise existing laws, policies, and regulations to align them with SRSP principles;

  • Establish or strengthen coordination mechanisms between different government agencies responsible for SRSP;

  • Develop and implement SRSP contingency plans to ensure a timely and effective response to shocks;

  • Develop and disseminate SRSP knowledge products, such as policy briefs, manuals, and case studies.


Position Requirements:



  • B.Sc. or MSc degree in Development Studies/Economics, Social Work, Public Administration, Public Policy, Nutrition, or related Social Science. Equivalent in a field related to Nutrition sensitive and or training/courses specific to Social protection + minimum 3 years of work experience;

  • Demonstrated expertise in program management;

  • Proven track record of providing technical assistance to government stakeholders;

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in social protection, nutrition, and disability;

  • Substantial experience in program planning, execution, and delivery, including budget management and monitoring;

  • Effective resource planning skills, encompassing commodities and technical expertise;

  • Proficiency in computer applications;

  • Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities, including the ability to think innovatively, set priorities, develop manageable work plans, and evaluate progress;

  • Adept at fostering collaboration and building the capacity of team members and external partners;

  • Experience in working collaboratively with government and other organization staff;

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in English and Hausa;

  • Previous experience working with local and international NGOs;

  • Independent, adaptable, and flexible work style;

  • Commitment to teamwork, team building, and understanding of how to contribute effectively;

  • Possess extensive experience working within the International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) and Humanitarian sphere;

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding and expertise in Social Protection principles and practices.
