Job Description
- The Tax Accountant plays a vital role in managing the overall tax function for the Kingdom in Nigeria.
- The role is charged with analyzing financial information, to meet changes, and comply with all Nigerian tax regulations and laws.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Managing the day-to-day running of the tax function.
- Providing tax advisory to the business on day-to-day basis and specific business needs.
- Advising the business on latest developments in the Nigerian tax space.
- Managing the monthly computation and remittance of statutory taxes (PAYE, WHT, VAT & CIT) for each month-end closing processes.
- Ensuring that accurate WHT and VAT (as appropriate) are deducted on payments made to vendors and are remitted as at when due.
- Ensuring PAYE returns are filed annually in compliance with the law.
- Representing the business as may be required in all tax audit meetings (FIRS or the States' Revenue Services)
- Liaising with tax consultants and develop scope of work to be adhered to under a standard service level agreement (SLA).
- Designing and documenting processes and procedures for the Tax function.
- Reviewing and submission of annual TP returns in line with changes in business processes, standards, and structure.
- Ensuring proper follow up with the tax consultants to close open tax issues in a manner favorable to the company.
What You Need for This Role:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or relevant field
- Professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- At least 3 years' cognate experience in an Accounting or Tax Function
- Flexibility in thinking and pragmatic problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and MS Office at an advanced level
- Ability to effectively communicate in person and in writing with C-Level individuals
- Time and Priority Management Skills
- Sound understanding of Accounting Principles and relevant financial reporting standards (FRC, IFRS)
- Good knowledge of Nigerian Tax Laws
