We are looking for a Financial Controller who will be key in driving the success and direction of the business, responsible for partnering with key operational stakeholders to influence decision-making through financial reporting, analysis, and financial modelling.
The focus of this role is to support the company to meet its financial objectives through planning, evaluating, and delivering strategic projects and supporting commercial decision-making.
S/he will be required to provide finance leadership when supporting key strategic priorities and providing in-depth financial advice and assurance
Key Responsibilities
Directly responsible for financial planning and analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and internal control across the business.
Responsible for financial reporting to management and compliant with statutory regulations.
Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
Conduct regular financial analysis and present reports to the executive team.
Preparing month-end reports for management, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
Recommending changes in policies or procedures that will improve financial performance to ensure the company's financial health by overseeing all financial planning and analysis activities.
Develop and manage the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to establish financial goals.
Provide insightful forecasts and variance analysis to support business planning and decision-making.
Conduct periodic internal audits to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Monitor and manage cash flow, providing recommendations for optimizing working capital.
Collaborate with treasury functions to ensure adequate liquidity for operational needs.
Liaise with auditors/tax consultants and external auditors (FIRS/LIRS etc.) on various audit activities and maintain a good relationship with the relevant stakeholders.
Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
Take ownership of the periodic inventory count and ensure differences in stock are accurately reported to management and reflected in the accounting software.
Oversee the monthly creation of financial metrics across the various departments and regions, and working closely with each location to achieve set targets.
Assist the Head of Finance in preparing financial reports to executive management.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Finance
Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Provide guidance on career development and performance management.
Job Requirements
Bacherlor's Degree in finance, Accounting, or related field.
Professional accounting qualification such as ICAN orACCA,
CFA, CIMA, MBA is an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Finance and Accounting.
Proven experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar leadership role within the retail industry.
Retail experience and strong knowledge of merchandising, inventory, wholesale management etc.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards, tax regulations, and retail accounting practices.
Advanced proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellentanalytical and strategic thinking skills.
