Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our healthcare team. The Medical Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for conducting various clinical laboratory tests on patient samples, ensuring accuracy and precision in results, and providing essential data for patient care and disease diagnosis. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in laboratory procedures, be detail-oriented, and maintain a commitment to quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sample Collection and Handling:
- Collect, label, and process patient specimens, ensuring proper identification and handling to maintain sample integrity.
- Prepare reagents and materials for testing, and verify their quality and expiration dates.
- Laboratory Testing:
- Perform a wide range of diagnostic tests, including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and molecular biology assays.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, following safety protocols and performing routine maintenance.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze test results and accurately report findings to medical professionals, ensuring timely delivery of critical information.
- Maintain detailed records of laboratory procedures, results, and quality control data.
- Quality Control and Assurance:
- Conduct quality control procedures to verify the accuracy and precision of test results.
- Participate in proficiency testing programs and ensure compliance with laboratory standards and regulations.
- Infection Control and Safety:
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment.
- Dispose of hazardous materials and biohazardous waste according to established procedures.
- Continuing Education:
- Stay updated on advancements in laboratory technology and medical research through ongoing training and education.
- Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Valid certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).
- State licensure, if required.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Experience:
- Previous experience working in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred but not always required.
Working Conditions:
- This role may involve working in a hospital, clinic, or reference laboratory setting.
May require working on evenings, weekends, or holidays in some healthcare facilities.
