Job Summary: 


The Retail department manager is responsible for training and coaching sales associates, creating and implementing sales strategies, and achieving sales targets. He/she would be responsible for maintaining store operations and visual merchandising standards.


As the Retail Department Manager, you would be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store department.  You would typically work regular daytime hours, although you may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate the store’s hours of operation. The work environment is fast-paced, high-pressure and you must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. You must be able to make quick decisions and also work well under pressure. You must also be able to motivate and lead a team of employees.


The ideal candidate must have experience managing a retail team, as well as knowledge of the latest trends in fashion, beauty, books, home decor and has a keen interest in African Art, Craft & Culture.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Achieve and exceed sales targets while controlling expenses.

  • Monitor inventory levels and product mix, and communicate needs to corporate office or appropriate vendor.

  • Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and discipline employees; provide input for performance reviews.

  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal laws.

  • Maintain visual merchandising standards in assigned department(s), including signage, stockings and displays.

  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Monitor customer traffic patterns and react accordingly to maximize sales.

  • Prepare weekly work schedules in accordance with labor guidelines and projected sales.

  • Process all sales transactions accurately and in a timely fashion.

  • Reconcile daily cash receipts and prepare bank deposit.

  • Assist in the development and execution of marketing plans.

  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.


Requirements



  • Proven experience as a retail manager or similar role

  • Excellent communication, customer service, and leadership skills

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities with clear instructions

  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays


Preferred Skills and Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field

  • Working knowledge of retail management software, including POS systems

  • 3+ years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role

  • Experience developing and implementing sales strategies

  • Outstanding people skills and ability to build relationships with customers and employees.
