What we are looking for:    



  • We are seeking a skilled and experienced Underwriter/Risk Manager to join our dynamic team at Casava Health. 

  • The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in assessing and managing risks associated with health insurance policies, ensuring profitability, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. 

  • This individual will possess a deep understanding of underwriting principles, risk management strategies, and Nigeria’s health insurance industry.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Policy Underwriting:



  • Evaluate health insurance applications, medical records, and other relevant information to determine the risks associated with insuring an individual or group.

  • Analyze underwriting data to make informed decisions regarding coverage, premium rates, and policy terms.

  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to develop competitive and market-responsive insurance products.


Risk Assessment:



  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential risks and challenges associated with insuring specific individuals or groups.

  • Utilize statistical models and data analysis to assess the financial impact of potential risks on the organization.

  • Develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of adverse events.


Policy Review and Renewals:



  • Review existing policies to ensure ongoing compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.

  • Evaluate policy renewals, considering changes in risk factors, claims history, and other relevant information.

  • Communicate with policyholders, brokers and other relevant stakeholders to address inquiries and provide information related to underwriting decisions.


Collaboration:



  • Work closely with other departments, including claims, customer experience, provider networking, and legal, to ensure seamless communication and coordination in risk management efforts.

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as reinsurers and regulatory bodies, to stay informed about industry trends and compliance standards.


Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:



  • Stay updated on industry regulations and ensure that underwriting practices align with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Implement changes to underwriting guidelines as needed to maintain compliance with evolving standards.


Job Requirements


The right candidate might have…



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Medicine, or a related field. Advanced degrees or industry certifications are a plus.

  • Proven experience in underwriting and risk management within the health insurance industry.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex medical and non-medical data and make informed decisions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of healthcare industry trends, regulations, and emerging risks.

  • Familiarity with underwriting software and data analysis tools.

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision in underwriting assessments.
