Job Description




  • We are looking for a Finance Business Partner to join our rapidly growing company.

  • The ideal candidate must have experience in working with startups, managing multiple sets of accounts and currencies, understanding financial and portfolio reporting, tax returns and payroll, and have a solid understanding of financial control. 

  • The candidate is required to be highly organised, process driven with great attention to detail. The candidate must also be able to work in a fast-paced environment.  

  • The candidate will be responsible for managing the performance of service providers such as the tax firms providing support in the various jurisdictions we operate in.

  • This role will report to the Financial Manager and will provide support in all finance matters.


Responsibilities:


The main responsibilities of the Finance Business Partner will include providing financial advisory and operational support to the startups in our portfolio and reporting on their performance accordingly.


Portfolio support: 



  • Providing financial accounting and financial management advisory support to the portfolio companies in the Venture Build, Venture Scale, and Venture Design Academy programs

  • Support the investments team by reviewing management accounts and analysing financial statements provided by portfolio companies

  • Support Founders with best-practice budgeting and financial management processes 

  • Support Founders with finding the best talent for their finance functions

  • Preparing and documenting finance policies, processes, and related playbooks for portfolio companies

  • Deploying portfolio-related payments such as stipends, loans, and founder invoices related to GEN-F (Venture Build)

  • Management of loans deployed and tracking repayments

  • Compliance: Reviewing all compliance documentation related to the portfolio companies

  • Ensuring that the tax compliance related to the Venture Build, Venture Scale and Venture Design Academy programs is in good standing in the various regions

  • Monitoring the portfolio companies against all compliance requirements including statutory audits, tax compliance and regulatory compliance.

  • Portfolio and Financial reporting: Analysing, monitoring and tracking the portfolio valuations of investments made by FFA 

  • Support Heads of Department with budget preparation and budget monitoring

  • Preparing the interest workings for the charitable loans

  • Preparing the assessment for credit losses 

  • Reviewing the accounts to ensure bank reconciliations and all portfolio valuations are captured accurately

  • Preparing monthly financial and portfolio reports for the Venture Build, Venture Scale, and Venture Design Academy activities

  • Maintaining accurate and complete financial records in the accounting system - Xero


Other responsibilities: 



  • Supporting the CFO and the Financial Manager with all finance matters for the Group of companies (South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, United Kingdom, new markets) 

  • Assisting with ad-hoc duties as and when assigned


Experience required



  • Experience working in a startup or high-growth business would be preferable

  • A BCom Accounting degree is preferred

  • Preferably a qualified accountant

  • A minimum of four years post-qualified working experience in a finance role

  • Solid accounting background with a sound understanding of accounting systems

  • Technical knowledge of IFRS and Tax legislation

  • Previous working experience with Xero an advantage (Preference but not requirement)
