Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the MLS include:
- Decisions concerning sample collection and handling
- Daily instrument maintenance and quality control
- Perform tests that help physicians diagnose and treat diseases,
- Prepare samples for analysis, and use equipment to locate microorganisms,
- Monitor tests and procedures and analyze the chemical content of fluids,
- Match blood for transfusions, and test for drug levels in the blood.
- Collection and interpretation of data
- Maintenance of accurate records and reporting of data
- Knowledge of critical values
Qualifications / Experience
- BMLS with at least 2 year post NYSC experience, must be registered with the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria (MLCN), and a holder of a current practicing license from the relevant body.
Essential Qualities:
- Communication skills are necessary for consultative interaction with other members of the health care team,
- Technical service matters and patient education.
- Laboratory professionals should demonstrate ethical and moral attitudes that are necessary for maintaining the confidentiality of patient information and gaining the confidence of patients, professional associates and the community.
