  • AjoCard is looking for a passionate, self-driven robust Financial Controller to take the finance department to the next level. As successful candidate you will be a leading the finance team responsible for all aspects of financial management, including:

  • Preparing budget and analysis and monitoring of results

  • Presenting and responding to investor queries

  • Regulatory and financial reporting

  • Development of internal control policies and procedures.

  • Treasury function

  • The controller will collaborate with the executive team to drive the company's strategy, growth and success to Series A and beyond.


The role will report to the CEO.


Key competencies



  • 7-10+ years of experience as a Financial Controller or a similar role with combined experience in accounting and finance

  • Commercially minded – good understanding of the business drivers, drive the team through constructive challenge and generate and work out own ideas as well

  • Strong ownership of allocated responsibilities and pride in your performance and its impact on company’s success

  • Natural leader and ability to motivate and develop teams in a positive manner

  • Problem solver

  • Multitask and manage competing priorities and deliver to strict time deadlines

  • Right balance between detail oriented and focus on the bigger picture

  • Excellent project management skills; preferably hands-on experience with delivery on OKRs

  • Ability to present to and liaise with board members and investors.

  • Knowledge and skills requirements

  • Qualified Accountant (ACMA, ACCA, ACA) with strong current knowledge of IFRS accounting standards.

  • Good understanding of accounting software (knowledge of Quickbooks and BankOne is an advantage)

  • Bachelor’s degree required (minimum 2:1) preferably in Finance or Accounting

  • Strong knowledge of month- and year-end closing process including consolidation.

  • Experience with financial modelling, budgeting and monitoring and creating financial statements

  • Solid knowledge of tax and other applicable company laws and regulations in Nigeria.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to work high performance environment

  • Strong MS Office skills, especially Word, Excel and Powerpoint


Primary responsibilities



  • Manage daily settlement and reconciliation process, which are the bedrock of our business and key mitigants of errors and fraud.

  • Manage all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue recognition and cost accounting.

  • Prepare and publish timely monthly consolidated financial statements including management accounts and quarterly board reports and provide the board with meaningful analysis and recommendations

  • Manage treasury operations and cash flow management

  • Drive strategy and growth of the company and be a solid business partner to all

  • departments by providing input and assistance where necessary.

  • Monitor execution of the strategy through accurate and timely reporting on KPI’s

  • Lead the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances

  • Develop and document business processes, internal controls and accounting policies

  • Ensure that internal controls relating to financial reporting are operating effectively

  • Manage compliance with all state, federal government and other statutory reporting

  • requirements and tax filings

  • Work closely with management/executive teams to follow up on adhoc requests

  • Manage, mentor and motivate the finance team

  • Manage compliance with IFRS principles
