About the Role

  • ART X is seeking a Curatorial Project Manager with 6-8 years’ experience, to join our dynamic team.

  • This role is ideal for a creative, visionary self-starter who harbours the desire to sustain a longterm career in the field of curation, and who also lives and breathes efficiency through expedient project management.

  • It presents an opportunity to contribute to ART X’s evolving role as a catalyst for the creative industry, and to the growth and success of African talent on the regional and global stage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project management plans to execute the company’s curatorial strategy, in alignment with its mission and overarching goals

  • Serve as the principal coordinating liaison between the curatorial department, and other company departments including the events, marketing and operations departments, to ensure the seamless, effective execution of all plans

  • Support guest curators across all programming and curatorial initiatives, such as the ART X Prize, Art Across Borders, Special Projects, ART X Live!, ART X Talks and more, focusing especially on execution and production, with duties also including but not limited to research, content development, artist management, text editing, exhibition design and installation

  • Lead the design, planning and execution of community and educational programmes, ensuring alignment with core curatorial programming

  • Develop effective systems of measurement and evaluation (including training of exhibition personnel), to assess the impact of exhibitions, programmes and curatorial initiatives, producing detailed evaluations and reports

  • Member of the Exhibition Design team, with a proactive focus on the production and logistics schemes required to give effect to the design strategy

  • Supporting member of the Exhibitor Relations team, involved in the review and management of the fair’s exhibitors - this also includes supporting the Selection Committee and the Exhibition Design Committee

  • Support the Marketing, Events and other departments as required with programme and product design, proposal development, written and image content, and other specialised tasks

  • Grow the company’s relationships with artist and art practitioner communities within Nigeria, across Africa and beyond - collaborating with industry stakeholders to develop programming and curatorial initiatives, and identify meaningful gaps for the company

  • Stay abreast of industry developments and innovations, to ensure the company’s curatorial initiatives remain poignant and cutting-edge

  • Manage budgets, timelines, resources and administrative responsibilities effectively to ensure the timely and successful delivery of all projects.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate is extremely creative, efficient and organised, with a stellar track record of art exhibition curation, production and delivery.

  • You are resilient, resourceful, flexible and able to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.

  • The ability to multitask, work calmly under pressure, and be a strong team player is also vital.

Key Requirements include:

  • 6-8 years’ experience working in arts and culture

  • Proven track record of developing and producing exhibitions at the highest levels of creativity and innovation

  • Excellent knowledge of the visual arts and culture sectors, with an awareness of current trends

  • Extremely organised with strong project management and administration skills - able to multitask, manage your time well, and comfortable working to tight deadlines

  • Versatile and adaptable, capable of engaging diverse audiences

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail

  • Strong interpersonal skills - you can build rapport with creatives and people of varied backgrounds, to get the best out of them

  • Proficient in InDesign, Google Docs / Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Dropbox, and cloud-based efficiency and project management tools.

Role Specification

  • This role is part-time and in-person, based in Lagos. However, interested persons based in a location compatible with GMT and WAT time zones and with flexibility to work from Lagos during critical periods, for stays lasting 2 to 3 months, may be considered.
